History

Gardner Tanenbaum Group began in 1936 as a Hotel and Restaurant Supply and over the past sixty years has continued to contribute to the growth and image of Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and the Oklahoma region.  Today we are considered one of the most dynamic real estate development companies in the region and have earned a reputation for quality construction, innovative design, and the commitment to bringing projects in on time and on budget.

  • 1936 – I.H. Gardner founds Gardner Hotel & Restaurant Supply
  • 1947 – The Gardner Realty Company is formed and builds their first industrial warehouse at 2 SW 6th Street in Oklahoma City. Mr. Gardner’s entrepreneurial spirit drove him to build for his own use and “pay rent to himself.”
  • 1950 – Justin Gardner joins the firm after a period of time in sales at Gardner Hotel and Restaurant Supply
  • 1957 – Gardner Realty Company builds their first Ross-Martin Company facility which remained in Oklahoma City until the late 1990’s.
  • 1960’s – Company focused on building apartment complexes in Norman, Oklahoma City, and office buildings along 23rd Street in Oklahoma City
  • 1962 – Gardner & Lipkin Management is formed to manage the development and acquisition portfolio
  • 1965 – Company sells Gardner Restaurant and Supply and forms Gardner & Gardner (G&G) Construction company and builds the Investors Capital Building which is the current Oklahoma County Courthouse.
  • 1970’s – Company focuses on office and warehouse development along Lincoln Boulevard and within the Santa Fe Industrial District
  • 1980’s Development focus shifts to the development of large scale build to suit facilities for FedEx, Best Buy and other corporate users
  • 1989 – Richard I. Tanenbaum sells restaurant chain and numerous locations throughout Houston and Dallas, Texas
  • 1990’s – Justin Gardner forms Gardner Management Company to develop and manage the existing portfolio and to facilitate third party construction
  • 1997 – Mr. Tanenbaum sells his last restaurant in Houston and moves to Oklahoma City to take advantage of new synergy in the market created by MAPS (Metropolitan Area Projects), recession proof economy, and Oklahoma City’s location as a desirable distribution center and manufacturing hub.
  • 1999 – During this time in Oklahoma City, land was “dirt cheap” and large parcels with excellent interstate accessibility were available along major interstate connections at I-35, I-44, and I-40. Mr. Tanenbaum syndicated over 900 acres in 7 different developments and created an interest free land bank for development that would coincide with the growth of Oklahoma City as a major distribution hub set at the crossroads of America. This fueled the growth of GTG from 700,000 sq ft when Mr. Tanenbaum joined in 1997 to 6,000,000 sq ft of existing properties within the company’s portfolio.

  • 2004 – IMAX is the first development for GTG in the Tulsa Area http://www.imaxcorp.com/
  • 2005 – Nomaco is the first company to locate in the Westgate Industrial Park http://www.nomaco.com/
  • 2006 – Stephen Tanenbaum joins Gardner Tanenbaum Group as the company enters its fourth generation of real estate development in Oklahoma
  • 2006 – GTG completes an 87,000 sq ft hangar facility for ARINC at Will Rogers World Airport http://www.arinc.com/

  • 2008 – GTG completes a 200,000 sq ft Boeing Corporate Office Building http://www.boeing.com/
